As a specialist, dermatology-focused clinic, registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), we can privately treat children aged 14+ for a variety of skin concerns. Our multi-disciplinary team is ready and waiting to take on challenging dermatological cases, and sensitive referrals that may have struggled to get a solution through primary care routes, or where treatment options have been limited due to NHS constraints.
Treatment is approached with care, discretion, and above all support to help the young person on their journey towards resolving the problem and improving their life and self-confidence.
Acne and acne scarring, warts, verrucas (verrucae), molluscum contagiosum, hyperhidrosis (axillary, plantar and palmar) – excessive sweating of the underarms, feet, and palms, hypertrophic scars from self-harming, pigmentation, and birth marks.
The Blemish Clinic is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator for independent clinics and hospitals in England. We are certified to treat disease, disorder, or injury, carry out surgical procedures and perform diagnostic and screening procedures, and can treat children and teenagers aged 14+.
Teenagers and young people can present with many of the same dermatological skin problems that we see in adults, it is just a case that the onset was sooner. Of course, other skin problems affecting teens can be more sensitive, relating to abuse or self-harm.
At this critical time in an individual’s development, and when relationships and forming friendships can be so character-forming, it is important to address skin problems that have an impact on the psychosocial behaviour of the young person, especially where it reduces their self-confidence and leads to isolation.
At Blemish Clinic, we can treat many skin problems affecting teenagers, including, but not limited to:
We have significant experience, as a multi-disciplinary team that includes doctors, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and specialist nurses, of managing complex dermatology cases with teenagers and young people, some of whom may have caused trauma to their skin through self-harm, been a victim of an abuser, or involved in other traumatic circumstances.
We also manage many cases of young people who have been severely afflicted by a medical condition such as excessive sweating or severe acne, to the point that is has a serious effect on their mental health, self-esteem, and day-to-day lives.
We offer a discrete, private service that will be conducted in consultation with the parents, carers, or guardians of the teenager, alongside engagement with their GP and any other primary healthcare providers, to ensure that we create an agreeable treatment plan that can provide the potentially life-changing results required to resolve the skin condition, scarring, sweating, birth mark, or other dermatological concern.
We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
As a CQC regulated clinic, we can treat teens aged 14+ for skin diseases, disorders, or injuries, offering diagnostic appraisals and minor surgical procedures (if required) via a multi-disciplinary team that includes dermatologists, plastic surgeons, general practitioners, and a specialist consultant nurse.
We treat many sensitive cases, including children affected by abuse or self-harm, as well as those with significant skin conditions troubling them at a young age. Skin concerns we can treat include mild, moderate, and severe acne, pigmentation concerns including birth marks, hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating, viral skin conditions including warts, verrucas, and molluscum contagiosum, as well as hypertrophic and keloid scarring because of trauma, acne, or self-harm.
The results of treatment will very much depend on the original condition and its severity, but we always aim to approach a resolution using evidence-based treatments, often in combination, to optimise the outcomes and achieve a result that means teens can live a happy and healthy life.
We take things slowly with teenagers, we know how important it is to reassure them about their skin concerns and the treatments we can offer. We go on the journey together with the teen and their parent, carer, or guardian to ensure we can resolve the problem both quickly and effectively, but without compromise. Treatment times will vary depending on the specific condition and treatment or combination of therapies required to treat.
The comfort of our patients is very important, even more so when treating teens and young people. We use topical and local anaesthesia where required and will always reassure patients who are more sensitive to pain and offer solutions to assist.
At Blemish Clinic, we use a variety of minimally invasive treatments for teen skin problems that may include medication, skin creams, light therapies including laser, IPL, and LED (Light Emitting Diodes) for phototherapy treatments. Most treatments require very little recovery time, dependent on the specific treatment or combination of treatments.
