Managing Director Blemish Clinic
Jan is an award-winning nurse and has worked in the aesthetic industry for over 20 years, after being at the forefront of the ‘new generation aesthetic medicine’ since new millennium 2000.
“I have had such an exciting career with many twists and turns. This has motivated me to be one of the longest and experienced professionals in the aesthetic industry today”.
Jan left the NHS over 20 years ago to pursue a career in clinical research – a role which led her into the field of aesthetic medicine, from the discovery of a new medical device (which was being researched for the treatment of skin cancer), which showed rejuvenating effects on healthy skin too.
From there Jan went on to work with Dr Sean Lanigan at the Skin Hospital in Birmingham, undertaking a study on facial rejuvenation using Omnilux Light Therapy - the first Light Emitting Diode (LED) to get a Medical License in the UK, which opened the door to the multitude of companies and products being used in the aesthetic market today.
Driven by her passion for dermatology and her first-hand experience of acne, Jan went on to specialise in photobiology. This enabled her to develop protocols to treat non-melanoma skin cancer and other medical skin conditions, and using light only, with a photosensitising gel in the treatment of acne.
Jan’s roles enabled her to travel globally, working with some of the most renowned dermatologists in the world, and being trained and mentored by some of the most reputed cosmetic doctors. She is no stranger to the press, with her aesthetic work featuring in the Daily mail, Daily Mirror and other consumer magazines, as well as being published in European and trade journals over the years.
Most recently Jan had an article published in the Journal of Aesthetic Medicine and was a finalist at the Aesthetic Awards 2023 in the category of ‘Innovative product of the year’ for the development of the product GlycoAla in the treatment of acne (together with Dr Robin Stones). This was a huge accomplishment, requiring many hours of work and Blemish Clinic is currently the only centre to offer this for the treatment of acne.
As someone who thrives on developing her skills and sharing her knowledge, Jan has been involved in several published clinical papers, and has lectured and presented at many aesthetic conferences internationally. She has also had the privilege to practise as a ‘clinical supervisor, educator, and mentor’ to many nurses and doctors over the years. Giving people confidence to reach their potential and having the opportunity to share their success is something that Jan finds very rewarding.
Jan has campaigned for safety in the aesthetic industry for many years and has been on both TV and Radio, helping people to understand that the aesthetic industry is not a fad, but a medical speciality. If done well it can help and support many people to feel good about themselves and it’s this difference that Jan sees in her patients that brings her the most joy.
It's no surprise that with Jan at the helm, Blemish Clinic has gone from strength to strength, adapting to change over the years, whilst always offering the most advanced treatments to our very dedicated patients.
